Hi, I am Paige Malven, the speech coach at Nashua-Plainfield and I would like to welcome you to our school. This letter has all the information for contest. If you have a question about something that I have not covered, please let me know and I can get that answered for you.
If you know of any drops, please let me know and I will make those changes on the schedule.
The schedule, a map of the school, directions to Nashua and the High School are found on this website. There is also a list of the schools participating in our contest. If you don't have a map, the day of contest, you can find the room number on the doorframe above each room.
The centers on the 1st floor (1 - 8) are all handicapped accessible. We do have an elevator available if needed. If there is a center that is not handicapped assessable for your student, please let me know.
If you have a student in expository or review, we will have a TV/VCR/DVD and pull down screen available along with an easel and small table, if your student needs something else, please e-mail me and we can see what we can do. If your student needs a computer, they are responsible to bring one.
Other map information:
1. The office is on the second floor, right of room 250, please check in here.
2. The bus drivers/coaches lounge is room 290 .
3. The draw room for radio will be the media center.
4. The gym is available for the students. Ratings will be posted there.
5. There are 5 sets of bathrooms on the first floor and 1 set on the third floor. All the locker rooms will be locked.
Coaches, please check in the office on the 2nd floor. If you have any drops or substitutes, please let the office people know. We do need substitute cards if you have someone substitute for someone else. Those were sent along with the pink and green cards at the beginning of the year.
All guests are asked to enter through the south gym doors. There will be a table there for the $3 donations along with extra programs to buy.
Busses: After your bus has unloaded at the south gym doors, please advise your bus driver to park the bus at the Elementary. It is located up the hill one block to the west of the northwest corner of the high school on Panama Street. This will save the parking lot for vehicles. This is a LARGE contest and the parking lot is not big enough to accommodate all the busses!!
Please make photocopies of your own schedules for students and parents. Let your students and parents know what your school code is. Also photocopy your ballots and place your school code and entry number of each contestant on the ballot. Make sure each copy clearly indicates your contestant number, school code, etc. Instruct your students to give the room chairperson the ballot. Remind them to go back to the judge for oral comments at the conclusion of their performance. Ballots may be picked up at the conclusion of your performance day. If you need to leave before ratings are posted, please bring a self-addressed stamped envelope and leave it in the office so that we may mail your comment sheets to you.
All food & drinks should be eaten in the cafeteria area. The N-P Band have an excellent concession stand planned with chicken sandwiches, pork burgers, and the typical concession stand items.
Please help to police the hallways to try to keep students, parents, and others quiet when performances are going on.
Coaches are welcome to attend the judges' meeting in the morning at 8:00 in the FCS classroom. Judges will be given instructions about the contest, notes from the state office and will take an area & general test. As per the request of the state office, judges will be instructed to be more discriminating in giving I's at district.
BAD WEATHER: IF we should have to postpone, our only option would be to have contest the next week. If this should happen, we would let everyone know when it would be held when we call on the postponement. Announcements would be made over KIMT and KWWL TV in Waterloo. I will be at the school 641-435-4166 by 7:00. My home number is 641-435-2633.
We look forward to hosting your school. Please remind your students to be courteous & quiet in the hallways & to be supportive of other performers. Thanks!
See you on the 28th.
